New Hope

"In the beginning was the Word." New Hope Church of God In Christ was born out of a word or phrase given to a Bible teacher/preacher named Robert Blackwell. It was then the Holy Spirit spoke into his spirit that phrase that would change the course of his life, "they are coming to you" knowing that the suggestion of this epiphany was a call into the pastorate he began to rebel. The more he said no the more the sweet presence of the Lord would leave. Not willing to sacrifice the presence of God for the pleasures of this world he surrendered to the will of the Father! As he began to say yes, the more the spirit of God inundated his soul. He looked again and saw a sea of people coming toward him. People of all races and creeds, and the Holy Spirit said once again "they are coming to you".

They began to come and New Hope's first service was October 26, 1997 and has not ceased. The church started in a very humble manner with just eight members at 507 5^th Street Maysville, NC ; the people continued to come.

Pastor Blackwell once commented that though he had no desire to be a preacher, God made him a Pastor/Teacher.

In the very beginning Pastor Blackwell taught that "Ministry means People" and New Hope Church of God In Christ has been an example of that teaching. With ministries that touch the full spectrum of the human experience, from the ravages of misinformation, miscommunication to the hopelessness of poverty; wherever there is a hurting people, New Hope Church of God In Christ will be seeking a way to heal them and give them Hope!

In 2008 New Hope kicked off the New Hope Community Development Corporation, which fosters community efforts and helps the citizens of Maysville grow and develop economically. It is our dream that New Hope will open a Youth Activity Center for the children of Maysville! This is ten years of "Church the way it is meant to be".

"New Hope" as it is affectionately called, is in the midst of experiencing the favor of God as He proves Himself by adding to the ministry. As a ministry, New Hope Church of God In Christ strives to attain the purpose for which she is called, not for vain glory but that she might be ready to meet the needs of the people; ever mindful of the phrase spoken in that vision to Pastor Blackwell, "They are coming to you."
